What does a School Counselor do? School Counselors are certificated professionals committed to developing a school climate that is respectful, positive, accepting, and safe for students of all backgrounds. School Counselors help students develop positive attitudes toward school, self, family, and community. We counsel students, individually and in groups, to understand themselves and the world around them. A big part of the counselor's is helping students explore who they are, what they want to do in the future and how to achieve their goals. Counselors work collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, administration, staff, and outside providers to remove barriers and help students achieve success.
